Brash student beats up principal in Gujarat

RAJKOT: In a brazen case of hooligansim in a college, a 19-year-old student hurled profanities at a woman lecturer and thrashed the principal in Sikka town near Jamnagar. The incident happened in the arts and commerce college run by Jamnagar Digvijay Gram Panchayat on Wednesday when the second-year BCom student Yogesh Sindhav barged into the class the middle of the lecture without permission. He was stopped by teacher Dr Hetal Bhatt who asked him to wait until the class got over. However, Sindhav got enraged and started hurling expletives at her in front of all other students. He then threatened Bhatt and asked her to get out of the classroom. Bhatt immediately went to principal Mahavirsinh Jadeja who rushed to the classroom and talked to Sindhav. But an unapologetic Sindhav started abusing Jadeja too and started thrashing him. Jadeja suffered minor injuries after he fell on the ground when Sindhav pushed him. Hearing the commotion, other students and staff members rushed to the classroom and caught hold of Sindhav. While leaving, Sindhav dared Jadeja to lodge a complaint against and threatened to kill him if he did so. Principal Jadeja confirmed that Sindhav has a penchant of threatening teachers in the college. “Last semester, he had brazenly tried to copy in the exam. But after villagers intervened, he gave a written apology." Investigating officer RK Gadhvi told TOI that Sindhav’s father Lakshman is a listed bootlegger and a detainee under Prevention of Anti-Social Activities (PASA) Act. Sindhav is a habitual offender and often gets into arguments with the teachers. Talking to TOI, Dr Bhatt said, “Sindhav often comes late into the class and has got ATKT in the first semester. In December too, he had behaved rudely with teachers.” RK Gadhvi, investigating officer, Sikka police station said, “Entire college has CCTV network. In the footages, Sindhav is clearly seen forcibly entering the classroom and then intimidating the lecturer. He is also seen smashing the principal after which students force him out the campus.”Sindhav has fled after the complaint was lodged against him.
