Pune techie stabs engineering college student on terrace, flees

PUNE: A 24-year-old man working as a software engineer stabbed a 21-year-old engineering college student with a knife on the terrace of a building in Narhe on Sunday afternoon. Both knew each other but the girl’s family had forbidden her from speaking to him and he was upset. The girl, who was taken to Sassoon General Hospital, is out of danger, the Sinhagad Road police said. Police recorded her statement on Sunday night. Senior inspector Nandkishor Shelke of Sinhagad Road police station told TOI that the injured girl is pursuing her third year engineering studies in Solapur while the man stays in Narhe with his friends. “He is also from Solapur,” he said.

The student came to Pune to attend a workshop at an engineering college in Bibvewadi. “On Sunday, the man went to the college and called her several times seeking a meeting. He had followed her status on a social media site and realized that she was in Pune. He took her to his flat,” Shelke added. He realized that his friends were in the flat and took the girl to the terrace. “The two spoke for a few minutes and before she could spot his intention, he stabbed her several times and fled. She sustained deep cuts on her hands, chest and stomach. We will register an offence of attempt to murder against him,” Shelke said.
