MIT students win bronze medal abroad

Pune: A team of students from the MIT School of Bioengineering Sciences and Research won a bronze medal at the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition — an international contest held in the field of synthetic biology. The competition was held from October 30 to November 4 in Boston, United States of America. The team, comprising five graduate students Ashima Khanna, Onkar Date, Divya Shetty, Anu Oswal and Ajay E, along with two instructors Nayana Patil and Madhura Chandrasekhar, was awarded the bronze medal for the idea of employing synthetically engineered bacteria for the environmentally benign bio-degradation of menstrual waste.
