ITI student among five killed in Bihar in 24 hours

PATNA: At least five people, including a student of an industrial training institute (ITI) of Bettiah, were killed and five others injured in different incidents in the state in the last 24 hours. A 35-year-old man was shot dead near Mahavir Ghat under the Alamganj police station area in Patna City on Sunday. Police said the victim was yet to be identified. SHO of Alamganj police station Sudhir Kumar said the assailants were probably known to the deceased. Earlier in the day, a 40-year-old autorickshaw driver, Sunil Paswan, was shot dead by unidentified criminals when he was on way to Athmalgola from Barh to deliver the consignment of fish. The deceased was a native of Budhanichak village under the Barh police station area. SHO of Barh police station Sanjeet Kumar said the incident took place around 8.30am near Hasanchak village under Athmalgola police station. On Saturday night, a 38-year-old man, Mukesh Kumar, was shot dead by unidentified criminals at Pethia Bazar under the Khagaul police station area in west Patna. The deceased was employed by the owner of a hardware shop and ward councillor Ritesh Kumar. Police said the incident was probably the fallout of Mukesh’s altercation with some local youths over misbehaviour with a professional dancer during Mahashivratri. In East Champaran, police recovered the body of a 20-year-old boy from a canal under Sirsia police outpost on Sunday. The deceased, Raju Yadav, was a student of a Bettiah-based ITI. He had gone missing on Saturday. In Buxar, a 62-year-old farmer, Umashankar alias Nanhku Yadav, was shot dead by unidentified criminals in his agricultural field in Shivpur diara under the Simri police station area on Sunday. Dumraon SDPO K K Singh said the farmer was attacked when he had gone to monitor the crop in his field. In another incident, altogether five people, including two minor children, suffered serious bullet injuries in a violent clash between two groups of people over a property dispute at Morma village in Lakhisarai district.
