Navi Mumbai: 15-year-old student collapses in classroom, dies en route to hospital

NAVI MUMBAI: A class X student from an international school at Seawoods, Nerul collapsed in a classroom and died before he could be admitted to a hospital on Friday around 8.45am. The ICSE student, Saumyee Bhatnakar (15), was a resident of Nerul. The school staff rushed him to Dr D Y Patil Hospital in Nerul, where he was declared dead on arrival at 8.50am. Police inspector (crime) Ravindra Patil said, "The CCTV footage of the classroom shows the boy collapsing, while he was operating a computer. The class teacher immediately summoned a nurse in the school, who arrived within two minutes. The boy was taken to a local private doctor, who told the school staff to admit him to a hospital. He was then rushed to Dr D Y Patil Hospital in Nerul."

Patil further said, "The boy had not been attending school for the last six days, as he had been suffering from convulsions. Having recovered from the ailment, he came to school on Friday morning and suddenly collapsed. We have registered a case of accidental death." In another incident in June this year, a class X student, Sayali Jagtap (15), had collapsed and died during an internal examination at Modern School in Sector-8, Vashi. Her post-mortem was conducted at NMMC hospital. The doctors reserved their opinion about the cause of death and her viscera was sent for histopathology.
