Missing Saifai ANM student killed by paramour, cops search for body

KANPUR: A woman pursuing auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM) course from Saifai Medical university in Etawah, who had gone missing under mysterious circumstances from her hostel on campus, was allegedly stabbed to death by her paramour. The accused, who was arrested on Sunday, has confessed to his crime, said police. After killing the woman, the accused, Anand Singh of Nagla Mahajeet in Civil Lines area of Etawah, dumped her body in Bhitaura canal. A massive search operation has being launched to locate the body, said police. Etawah ASP (rural), Om Veer Singh, said, “Anand Singh was arrested on Sunday and has confessed to his crime. He was married and had an illicit relationship with the deceased woman, Kanchan. She was also married to one Anupam Kumar, and was pursuing two-year ANM course from the paramedical department of Saifai Medical university, Etawah. She was a native of Khadepur village in neighbouring Mainpuri district.” “On September 24, the accused had taken Kanchan to a temple in Bah area of Agra where he had an argument with her when she asked for money on coming to know that he had purchased agricultural land in the name of his wife,” the ASP said.

“Anand told investigators that Kanchan threatened to reveal their illicit affair to his wife following which he stabbed her to death while returning from Agra and dumped the body in Bhitaura canal,” he added. Kanchan’s husband Anupam, who works in Gurugram, Haryana, had lodged a missing complaint at Saifai police station on September 27 after he failed to contact her. “We arrested Anand after receiving inputs and scanning his call details. He confessed to his crime and revealed the spot where he had dumped the body. We have launched a search for the body in Bhitaura canal,” the ASP said.
