Manipur student death: Principal's son in cop custody

IMPHAL: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up to investigate the death of a school student arrested the principal's son and produced him before the Imphal district and sessions judge on Tuesday afternoon. P Robinson, the youngest son of principal P Landhoni, was picked up on Monday night and quizzed in police custody about the death of a minor at the school. She was found hanging, feet touching the ground and covered in mud, in her hostel room on July 18. Owing to the circumstances of her death, her family and locals sought a proper investigation. The state has agreed to hand the case over to the CBI and the SIT was formed to probe the incident until then.

Police have added a murder charge besides that of unnatural death in the case. Robinson has been remanded in police custody till August 4. Police have also picked up two individuals for spreading rumours about the incident on social media. Earlier, police had arrested two wardens of the school. Prior to that, the two wardens, Landhoni and school administrator, P Romita Devi, had filed anticipatory bail applications. The court had granted interim bail to Landhoni and Romita but rejected the applications of the two wardens, who have been remanded to judicial custody till August 8
